pic #oftheday: howdyowlydoo

I am no sucker for the all-things-turned-owl trend, but is this not the most adorable visual "hello" ever? Flickr caption reads, "Young Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia) Stretching." There. Now you even know its scientific name/binomen.

Happy Friday, all!

pic #oftheday: odd one out

Photograph by David Schultz via National Geographic.
Strikingly colored, an adult king penguin stands out in a sea of chicks on South Georgia Island.
I thought someone had photoshopped strange manifestations of upright kiwi birds around this poor, bewildered king penguin. Who knew the babies were so big and brown?
