hey ho, happy valentine's!

Wishing everyone a Happy Valentine's today! For all the cynics out there who go by the rumor that this tradition was created by Hallmark, here's a little history lesson on the origin of Valentine's Day from the History Channel. A little excerpt:

The history of Valentine's Day--and the story of its patron saint--is shrouded in mystery. We do know that February has long been celebrated as a month of romance, and that St. Valentine's Day, as we know it today, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman tradition. But who was Saint Valentine, and how did he become associated with this ancient rite?

Okay, origins not very clear, but at least older than Hallmark. Not completely contrived and still enough traditional reason to celebrate chocolate and shameless pink adornament.

:D

And for those of you looking for a sweet little way to celebrate (without breaking the bank or requiring an actual date), don't forget to take up today's buy one get one free offer at Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf!
